How to Prevent Cracks and Chipping: Expert Advice from a Nail Republic Technologist
Cracks, chipping are common issues on both long and short nails. They may occur due to soft materials that cannot hold the length, high mechanical load, frequent contact with water, or the natural characteristics of the nail plate.
To solve these problems, we at Nail Republic created Set for High-speed Modeling — a system of hard materials that helps build strong architecture and reinforce the natural nail. In my work, I prefer camouflage shades No.2 (milky) and No.4 (natural pink), as they provide an even finish and make a perfect base for any gel polish color.
2 techniques for Working With Hard Materials to Prevent Cracks and Chipping
1. Polygel 071 + Liquid Polygel 10 — ideal for thin, twisted or pecking nails.
I apply the polygel to the free edge to create a precise shape and correct irregularities. Then I file the free edge and always refine it from the underside with an e-file — this helps prevent lifting, cracks and chipping from the free edge. I finish by leveling the nail with Liquid Polygel 10. The shades in the set blend well together, ensuring a clean and natural-looking result.
2. Gel Classic 08 — strong reinforcement and length building
I apply it directly “to readiness,” creating proper architecture and a well-defined apex. I perform the shaping and length filing after application. This method works best for naturally even nails and speeds up the process due to minimal filing.
Conclusion
The choice of technique depends on the client’s natural nail condition. With the Set for High-speed Modeling, nail artists can reinforce any length, prevent cracks and chipping, and significantly speed up their workflow.
